Post-16 SEND college transport

Reliable transport to college, sixth form and training for young people aged 16 to 25 with special educational needs and disabilities.

Who it's for

Young people aged 16 to 25 with an EHC plan or additional needs who are going to college, sixth form, a specialist post-16 setting, supported internships or work placements in and around Camden, Islington, Haringey and Hackney.

What's included

  • The same driver and, where needed, passenger assistant every day
  • Wheelchair-accessible minibuses with a rear lift and tested restraints
  • Journeys planned around college timetables, including part days and placements
  • Respect for growing independence, with support to build travel confidence where the young person wants it

Who arranges it

Councils publish a post-16 transport policy statement each year setting out what help they give. Some young people get council-arranged transport, some get a personal travel budget, and colleges sometimes arrange transport directly. We work with all three.

Do councils provide transport for students with SEND over 16?

Councils must publish a post-16 transport policy statement each year. Many offer help to young people with SEND aged 16 to 25, but what's offered varies by council.

Can a college book SEND transport directly?

Yes. Colleges and specialist post-16 providers can contract us directly for daily routes and placements.
