Home-to-school transport for children with SEND
Many children with special educational needs find the journey the hardest part of the school day. We plan every route so it's predictable, calm and the same each morning.
What every route includes
- The same people every day. A fixed driver and, where needed, a fixed passenger assistant. If someone is off, we tell the school and family before the journey, not at the door.
- Pupil passports followed. How each child likes to be greeted, where they sit, what helps when they're anxious, and what to avoid.
- Accessible vehicles. Wheelchair-accessible minibuses with tested restraints, and single-occupancy journeys for children who need to travel alone.
- A named handover. Children are handed to a named adult at home and at school. We never leave a child unattended.
- Someone to call. Schools, families and commissioners get a direct number for the person running the route, not a call centre.
Needs we plan for
Our routes are planned around the children on them, including those who are autistic, have learning disabilities, profound and multiple learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or social, emotional and mental health needs. Where a child has a medical need, we agree a written plan with the school and family, and staff are trained for it before the first journey.
Who we work with
Councils
We're applying to join council dynamic purchasing systems and frameworks for SEND travel assistance, and can supply our policies, insurance certificates, staff training records and vehicle inspection records at application. We'll be ready to take routes from 2027.
Schools and colleges
Special schools, resource bases and post-16 providers can contract us directly for daily routes, trips, therapy sessions and work-experience placements.
Parents and carers
Home-to-school transport for children with an EHC plan is usually arranged by your council's SEND travel assistance team. You can ask them whether we're on their list of approved operators, or talk to us about private journeys.
Ask about a school route
Tell us what the route needs. You don't need every detail yet, and please don't include children's names or medical information. We'll ask for what we need securely once we're working together.
