Who can get help
Islington Council's Home to School Travel Assistance Policy covers children aged 5 to 16. A child can qualify because of special educational needs or disability, and also because of distance, an unsafe walking route, low income, faith or exceptional circumstances.
How to apply
- Read Islington's Home to School Travel Assistance Policy.
- Fill in the council's travel assistance application form.
- If you think your child should get help because of exceptional circumstances, contact Islington's SEN Team first on [email protected] or 020 7527 5518.
- Include evidence of your child's needs, such as the EHC plan or letters from professionals.
What help you might be offered
- A seat on a shared minibus route, with a driver and passenger assistant
- A single-occupancy journey, if your child needs to travel alone
- Other options in Islington's policy, such as a travel pass or personal travel budget
If you disagree with the decision
- Stage 1: ask for a review in writing within 20 working days of receiving the decision.
- Stage 2: if you're still unhappy, tell the council in writing within 20 working days of the stage 1 outcome. An independent panel should decide within 40 working days.
